IS IT TRUE OR JUST PLAIN MISLEADING
SHOULD THE BREEDER BE IN THE DOG HOUSE?

There are many websites that have both facts and/or fiction placed on there websites that are incorrect, and it is these errors or misleading statements that I would like to clarify for the unsuspecting buyers. Should you require any further information based on my opinions please contact me via email.
These opinions expressed are mine and mine alone, take them as you will as they are done without prejudice
14) The words "Our kennel is the only one to purchase from" should never, never be taken lightly! People will lie and tell you what you want to hear just to get the sell. Never go with the intent to purchase that day. Take at least 1 visit to view and even if it is only 24 hours a second visit to actually purchase and sign documents! This will give you time to reflect on what the seller has said and understand it!
13) Co-Ownership/Breeding - Does the host kennel try to take credit for something they had very little to do with---If the website has no pictures of dogs/puppies/Champions they are not really involved in the results of the dog. Just the breeding (in the sense that they own one of the dogs used to produce the puppies), and then more than likely the Owner has made the choice of what is a top quality match. It takes a large amount of time/patience/and money to get a dog to his/her potential. A person is not allowed to use photos without the owners permission, therefore if there is no photo chances are they do not have permission from the owner for whatever reason and just try to use the information to impress the general public. Contact the actual kennel of the dog they are advertising as co-owned and ask questions. As a top breeder/handler/groomer I know I dont have time to check every website out there to see where people are abusing my kennel name but would appreciate a telephone call to let me know. Also food for thought, usually with a co-owned litter the second party has the right for money and or a puppy(s) for services,,,,,,if they did not choose to keep a puppy - which should be listed and pictures in there list of dogs they obviously choose the money----HMMMMM!
12) Can there be "Llegitimate' puppy mills - YES, just because all puppy's / dogs are registered with associations - "this can include any local or national Club" does not mean the breeder is breeding under the best interest of the dog. To the best of my knowledge there is absolutely no regulations with any club as to how many litters/puppies a breeder can turn over in any given year. My only and best advice to this is to ensure that you go and view the kennel you are buying from. If you cannot attend the kennel phone the local veterinarians, shelters, rescue centers for example and ask them what they know about the kennel. Ensure that the breeder is supporting the dogs and that the income from the dogs is not supporting the breeders. Is there too many dogs on the property for the breeder(s) to possibly give appropriate attention too! If you cannot attend the kennel - count the number of dogs they have on the website, how many puppy's are they producing - ask all the questions you can! If you do not get answers "BEWARE"!
11) Ensure that the dog you are considering purchasing is for the standard of the country you are in. European judging is very, very different from Canadian standards, just because a kennel advertises it has CHAMPIONS in different countries, means very little, as some of those dogs are totally wrong for the standard in Canada and these dogs most likely would not be of show quality here.
10) Dog shows ONLY and only present 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th placing in each individual class of dog. This is determined by sex, age, and classification. Anyone that indicates a 5th or 6th placing is not telling the truth, as there is no possible way they would know that when judges DO NOT award these.
9) The breeders may show dogs that were purchased from their kennel and mislead you into thinking they showed that dog to there championship, when in fact they may never had seen it after selling it. They believe if they can say this was their champion you will think they are very good at showing when in fact they have never handled this dog and may even stole the photo from another website.
8) Pictures can be VERY DECEIVING, are they actually from that kennel, are they enhanced, do they look realistic - for example there may be a picture of a beautiful building but is there any dogs in the picture, how many dogs, are the outdoor pictures wide angel or just what they want you to see. Is it done by the kennel operator OR does it appear to be done by a professional that can make anything look good!
7) Is there always puppies available? A good breeder will show how many litters they have had in the past when they anticipate a breeding, when they expecting a litter and update on future breedings, showing at all time as they have absolutely NOTHING to HIDE.
6) Research, Research, Research, A kennel may have several breeds of puppies on the property for sale. The way they get around you not knowing each breed is by having several different Kennel names. For example- Even though all these dogs are at one kennel , A Chow may be under CHOW CHOW Kennels, A Shitzu may be under TINY Kennels, there is no restrictions or legislation telling you how many kennel names a breeder may have.
5) Attend your local dog show, view the breed in the ring that you are possibly thinking of purchasing prior to talking to the breeders/handler. This way you will be able to see the poor quality, such as limping, frighten and aggressive dogs in action before the breeder/handler tries to reel you in. You can see where local dog shows are by going to www.canuckdogs.com for a whole listing. Ensure you talk to other exhibitors as to what they think of the breeder in question.
4) There is no such thing as a NO DROOL Saint Bernard, all Saints drool at some point some worse than others!
3) A HEALTH check is not the same as a VETERINARIAN HEALTH check, some breeders do a health check of there own therefore there is no documentation stating a VETERINARIAN is the person(s) that examined the dog/puppy. Make sure if you ask about a health check that you understand this clearly. If a certified Veterinarian has done the health check a proper document should be with you contract, registration papers. BUT just remember if in doubt of the authenticity of the paper provided telephone the veterinary clinic listed on the paper. Veterinarians have a list of all puppies that they examine.
2) Does the price of a puppy/dog change for different reasons by different breeders? Absoulutly! Sometimes a puppy mill will sell them just to get them sold, sometimes they will not sell them for anything but thier top dollar. For a reputable breeder it is NOT about the money but what is best for the puppy or dog. Depending on several factors an older dog may not be happy in a pack (more than one dog home) setting and be more suitable for a individual home.
1) How many dogs are too many, I guess you really need to view the websites or as mentioned prior visit the kennel, and find out how many people are working/raisinig those dogs. You be the judge! For example 16 dogs 2/3 people training, caring, and feeding is not that bad....However 60 dogs 2/3 people doing the same work is a bit different, are the puppies/dogs getting proper care???? YOU be the judge!
